RE: Where to buy Koni shocks

WOW for $250 I might put off getting the See level system for our tanks if the shocks make that much of a difference!
any idea on how to find out what shocks go on a 2008 Georgetown?

Who has upgraded or has a Inverter???

I understand this is not a simple question but I have a 2008 Georgetown with only two coach batteries (12V) and was wondering what other people have for inverters? I was thinking of 1000 watt minimum and even of getting a 3000 watt with the thought of adding two more batteries for a total of four.
Has anyone added an inverter and if so what watt's and for what reasons?
Thanks

RE: Entry Level Models?

Here is a question not yet answered to me, what is the difference in financing the "used" motor home versus the new? Is it like a car where the difference in percent interest will "kill" you spending the same money but on a used coach? For instance, your payment for a "new" $80,000 coach will be a lot less than a three year old $80,000 coach? Any help?????

RE: Entry Level Models?

Wow, I will try and keep this short, MY ADVICE and should I say again MY ADVICE after purchasing a 2008 Georgetown Bunkhouse has been GOOD (thanks again Barrington RV) just remember what you get in a starter RV Class A. I was not happy with spending 80$ and not getting a inverter, or a compass, temperature gauge, (some other creature comforts we enjoyed in our minivan that was our first motor home) somewhat of a short list.
My point as I like to talk and type IS do your homework I agree with most of the people that shot me down when I complained about these things before and basically told me I purchased a Ford Escort GT and I should have thought HARD about purchasing a five or six year old RV and got more amenities such as a emaciator pump, better gauges for my tanks (see level here I come) and an inverter. So in short do your homework and see what things YOU guys WANT and NEED to make your Class A RV experience the best it can!
By the way our Forest River has held up well just small items that are adding up to being a pain. But not major problems!

RE: Outside shower, Quartzsite

Wow how interesting a discussion from Hippies to gray water??? I am not sure where I fall in this discussion as I have had to stop on the trail and use the bush and have used the outside shower to save filling my gray tank (using evo-friendly soap and shampoo) and realize that if I owned property and had 60 campers why I would not like this practice (for those people from Chicago imagine Wrigleyville after a cubs game) and when I am out walking my dog on my own property then it is not a bid deal.
so my final question is the outside shower banned due to the amount of people that would make a mess or is it due to some type of polution that i am not familar with?

RE: Involuntary fulltiming surges, limit RV parking.

If you could see my RV from the street I would be impressed, the issue for a lot of us is the haphazard enforcement of parking laws in each of our backyards!
and I doubt my 2008 Georgetown looks all that ugly!

RE: Involuntary fulltiming surges, limit RV parking.

RV street parking PLEASE!!! I cannot even park mine in my house for more than a few days before the neighbors start calling the village and accuse me of "storing" my RV in the driveway! It is a shame as many of our local RV parks limit the amount of time you can stay (five day max) so for us it is not even an option to put it on the street. I would like to tell the village to pound sand but our neighborhood adopted some stupid rules (that are not enforced equally) about parking things other than cars on property. The shed building rule appears to get ignored but park a boat in your driveway and just wait for the village to crawl up your privates!

How do you know no water is coming from the heater? Ours was going on and off so fast that the water never heated. We had a bad computer board...

Main door assist/recommendations

Ok, I tried searching the forums for an answer and could not find one (could be me) however, I am going to ask anyway. I have a main door that has hit the side of our coach more times than I can count. Lately it has effected the door closing correctly. Here is the question, is there an upgrade/way to change the door so it is hydraulic assist? or some other contraption to keep it from slamming open?
Thanks!!

RE: Bicycle Carriers

Went overboard and purchased a Thule four bike carrier and it has been great! It has a bolt to tighten the carrier into the hitch so it does not sway a lot and an option to allow it to swing down (if it were on the back of an SUV) out of the way. It has worked great so far, the only down fall is it was expensive and I had to pay extra for locks.

RE: Child Seat in Class A MH

If the baby is only 9 months old. She must, must, must be rear facing, it's the law and not only size but strength issue as well. Contact your local police or fire department and ask if they have a car seat tech. they will install the car seat the right way and in the best position.

RE: Forest River Georgetown Class A experience

Rocket Heart I appreciate your commonality with me and the Steer Safe will be my next addition. I laugh inside at several of the comments as being in the "Trade" the joke is "If you can't see it from your house" then the work you are doing is fine. Some of the posts about 50-60 components in a MH sounds a lot but buying a new house (at least in IL.) the builder has a responsibility during the first few months (if not years depending on how much your house was) to fix what is not working correctly. This is what I am expecting...
OKAY LAST POINT
I expected to have at least what appears to be basic features on ANY vehicle these days. Front driver and passenger having separate climate control the ability to check my MPG and see what direction I am driving North South...not to mention less keys than a janitor to operate my rig!

RE: Adding inverter?

Researching the same issue it pays to pay MORE for the inverter as when you install it you can save time/money. For example some of the inverters have an automatic sensor that allows it to shut off the AC part of the inverter when you have shore power. Some of the more pricey units then will charge your batteries when it senses shore power and let shore power take care of the power needs in the coach.

RE: Forest River Georgetown Class A experience

Well this is the funny part, we have very few problems with our coach when I look at some of the other problems that are posted. HOWEVER I think as RV motorhome enthusiasts we are setting our standards to low for our coaches. I am happy but disappointed in how it was put together in many respects. As I mentioned before I have worked in the trades and building a house shows either its flaws or its strengths after you move in. I am seeing more flaws than strengths and that is what bothers me. I am glad many people are happy as I am with our coach I just had higher expectation's going into this.

RE: Forest River Georgetown Class A experience

I cannot believe that if I want the same quality control in a Sable that I would pay twice the price! I have NOT worked in the automobile industry BUT have worked for a highend housing builder and have first hand experience in house building. There is a difference between a craftsman ie skilled person and someone who is in assembly. We had only ONE company that would install stairs in the homes we built becuse of HIS quality control and the standards that he set. If the standard was set higher (my belief if lemon laws were put into place) then most of the short cuts during assembly would change. You can install a deck with green wood and nails for cheap or you can go with cedar decking and screws BUT if the framing it is built on was done fast cheap and with no or very little concern (you can't see it from my house) for end quality then I got what I paid for.
I miss the chance to drive my BMW (80K worth!) without the kids on days when the RV is in the shop, for the third time since we purchased it.

Forest River Georgetown Class A experience

Ok, I have read many many posts on this board and cannot help but wonder what the matter is with us RV owners? I really mean this in a good way. I have entered the arena earlier than most (my wife and I are in our 30's) and cannot believe the problems I have encountered. The first is quality control, as purchasing this RV for almost $80,000 I had very high expectations about performance. The first impression when driving the darn thing was it's poor ability to stay in it's own lane. I have researched and found buying a $350 steer safe will most likely fix this problem. Secondly in spending this type of money I cannot help but realize that the Audi A8 Quatro (that sells for $70K) might not have the same problems I have encountered. I have seen and been told that we purchased a lower level base line coach. If I wanted something to handle better and have higher quality I should pony up $300,000 and I will be happy.
Lastly, I blame most of this on us owners as we are willing to accept the poor quality for $80K as many many more coaches sell for more that are A LOT nicer. I cannot believe that in my opinion buying a "Ford Taurus/ Mercury Sable" type RV that the quality control is not better. If I find one more zip tie, spray foamed in part, rattling TV, loud engine noise (as I should expect being front engine)or poor operating lock or even the door that I enter my RV in cannot be on a opener (similar to my screen door of my house)to keep it from slamming against the side is BEYOND ME. Okay I am done just needed to get it off my chest of why we put up with this for 80K
P.S.
My 35K pickup truck has keyless entry and only two keys on the key ring. My RV has about twenty keys 2 for the door to get in, one more for the garage, another for the gas cap, more for the lock to keep the hitch from getting stolen, still another for the bike rack, and dont forget the key to start the coach. WHY NOT KEYLESS TO LOCK THE DOOR TO ENTER AND THE GARAGE? AND MY GAS CAP? ALARM? ANYONE?

RE: Leveling Boards

We are going to Florida and the camp grounds specify no concrete and was wondering if the 3/4 plywood 1 X 1 foot works well? I have plenty of 3/4 plywood from a prior project to make several to bring with. Any suggestions?
